Fall 2015 Outdoor Emergency Care Course
This site covers the National Ski Patrol's Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) training course that's held in the San Francisco South Bay area each Fall. Details on registration, materials, preparation and location are located on the tabs above. Course updates are posted below as they are published.
Outdoor Emergency Care® is the National Ski Patrol’s award-winning training program for patrollers and others in the recreation community who deal with emergency situations. This nationally recognized program is designed to help you manage the toughest emergencies, in all seasons. Developed in the late 1980s for the 26,000 members of the National Ski Patrol, Outdoor Emergency Care is a training program that is tailored to the nonurban rescuer. Today, OEC is considered the standard of training for emergency care in the outdoor environment and is recognized by resorts and recreational facilities in all 50 states.

Cravats
As you've seen in the class prep instructions above, you'll need to prepare & have 4 cravats in your supply pack.
Janice Waits, long-time patroller, instructor, as well as regional and division officer, has kindly prepared a number of sets. These will be available first-come/first-served from Janice directly. She has not named a price, but I understand she likes wine & beer.
If you're interested, contact Janice directly at: jrwaits40 <at> gmail.com and negotiate your transaction.
Thanks Janice for your support once again this year.

Further Info on Registering with the National Office (for Candidates)
As you know, you need to register for both the course (via Eventbrite) AND the National office (instructions & overview video on the "Registration" tab above).
This is always a confusing process, particularly the National Office registration. So, some tips in doing so:
Candidates:
If you have a ski area identified & they have accepted you as a candidate, register as a "Candidate". Instructions here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19UbEJmsIcSwNzNXJcwPqhp2L_qLJyP7l/view?usp=sharing
Associates:
If you have not yet been accepted into a ski area's program, register as an "Associate". Instructions here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c3pfCJId0CwU6RgTFrOGC-tgFNIExrnr/view?usp=sharing
Terminology:
Just to add to the confusion, all students in OEC classes are called "Candidates". This applies if you're a candidate, associate, etc. per the above definitions.
Timing:
Before you register with the National Office, see this note from Nancy Stromswold from the ESR BoD:
*New candidates who register and pay NSP dues after July 1, 2019 will have dues posted on their profile through 12-31-2020 (last 1/2 of 2019 and all of 2020.) If a new member pays their NSP dues before July 1, 2019, dues will be posted through 12-31-2019.
*Current and new members must have current NSP dues paid to [get credit for courses they take]
