Outdoor Emergency Care on Flipboard

A while back we created a custom magazine on Flipboard on Outdoor Emergency Care. It's been quite successful with now nearly 500 followers.  

For those unfamiliar with Flipboard , it's (primarily) tablet app which enables viewers to browse subjects of interest as "magazines".  Some of these are curated by the Flipboard staff, others by individuals on topics of their own interest.  We did the latter for OEC.  

Send me any feedback you have.  My thinking is to get some initial commentary on this, and then develop a contributor network to provide crowd-sourced content of interest.

OEC SouthBay 2016 Open for Registration

OEC Southbay 2016 is open for registration.  Here are some preliminary details for candidates & instructors:

-      Details on how to register are on the tab "Registration Fees & Information".  Please register as soon as possible to secure your place in class and give us an accurate candidate count.

-      Preliminary syllabus, schedule, and location is posted on the tab above. 

-      Guidance on preparing for the course is on the "Course Materials" tab above.  Be sure to give it a close read.  The sooner you get started on the items noted there, the more prepared you’ll be for class.

As we have noted in previous posts, we will need at least 12 candidates to run the Southbay class this year.  Thus if you are a candidate, or know of interested candidates, email me right away so we can get an accurate picture of what we are working with.  I’ll keep everyone informed here on the blog, and regardless, we’ll make the final go/no-go decision on Aug. 1.

OEC 2016 Plan

Limited registration last year led us to consolidate the Bay Area 2015 OEC classes to Sunnyvale.  The plan was that we'd run Sunnyvale in 2015 with Concord taking a year off, then the opposite in 2016.  However, given the good conditions we've had this year, we have seen increased interest in OEC classes this year.  So, here's our revised plan:

- We will run the Concord class in 2016.  Oliver Fontana will lead this class, to great reviews as usual.  Oliver's class blogsite: http://www.eastbay-oec.org/

- We will open up the Sunnyvale class to registration WITH THE CAVEAT that we must get at least 12 candidates.  If we get 12 or more, we're on.  If not, we'll consolidate to the Concord class and cancel Sunnyvale.  Sunnyvale class website: http://oecsouthbay.blogspot.com/  We'll start taking registrations in early June.

- And, of course, David Stepner will lead the Truckee Intensive class in October.  David's class blogsite: http://oecintensive.blogspot.com/

Congratualtions New Homewood Patrollers!

Three Southbay OEC graduates just finished their candidate training at Homewood and got their red jacket!   (Blue = "smurf"= candidate; Red = Patroller).

Congratulations New Patrollers!

When we started our class this last summer, we said one thing - train hard so game day is easy.  And you all did just that - committing countless hours at class, studying, and practicing.  

Speaking for the entire instructor crew, a huge congratulations to each and every one of you.  You did a great job.

Also a huge thanks to the all the patrollers who helped out with this year's class - those that helped at class, as well as those behind the scenes.  You are the people that made this class what it was and we could not have done it without you.

So all of you - patrollers new & old - take a moment to pat yourself on the back for a job well done.    ...and then check CMS.

Final Practical Exam

Congratulations, candidates, on a job well done on the written final exam.  All passed, and we're looking forward to the practical final this Saturday.

As we discussed in class, here are some key things to keep in mind for Saturday (and beyond).  See you all in class Thursday night for our final tune-up.
